We had the opportunity to speak with Allan Rwakatungu the founder and CEO at Xente Limited to share with us his experience on working with Refactory students. When the concept of bootcamp was shared with him, he was skeptical to hand over a sensitive project to junior software developers.

I was very skeptical at the start as all the bootcamp apprentices attached to our project each walked different paths and had little knowledge when it came to software development. One was a radio DJ and I didn’t want space fillers.

Allan recalls

However, his doubts were all put to rest when he learnt that they were eager to learn. So, when he had a one-on-one session with them, he learnt of their aspirations and why they were interested in the project. “I assigned them mentors who walked the journey of ushering them into the company to allow them familiarize with the project and what was required of them.”

The team, Olive Nakiyemba, Declan and Oketayot Julius were indeed up for the task as they were able to deliver a well-built SDK that was meant to help e-businesses receive cashless payments using the Xente App payment collection API.
